Inteligent fenders

Case story of fender to Windsupplier

In 2008 Dong Energy contracted, development and construction of a 32 m monohull for the servicing of the offshore wind mill farm Horns Rev 2, by the yard A/S, Hvide Sande Skibs-  & Baadebyggeri. The vessel was and remains one of the largest and heaviest vessels built to dock offshore wind mills.

Due to the large displacement of the vessel, it was chosen to perform a series of trail tests to identify the horizontal and vertical forces that would come into the ship's fender. In this way a model of the ship and the tower with boat landing was constructed, and the ship's front end was braced to the foundation with measuring equipment, and wave experiments were performed at the test tank of Force Technology in Lyngby.

Trail tests showed values which made new demands and challenges to RG Seasight Fenders. In close cooperation with the shipyard and the shipping company, RG Seasights XL fender is developed on the basis of test results. In continuation here of the intelegente system of RG Seasight that can indicate load distribution on the 2 pipes on the boat landing is also being developed.

These tests and development work have formed the basis for further development of several of the heavy duty fender types of RG Seasight and fender has now sailed for more then 2 years and must therefore soon undergo service via the care system of RG Seasight where a new wearing surface is vulcanized before being ready to help to ensuring crew transfers from Wind supplier to the offshore wind mills at Horns Rev 2.
